Sometimes they are left with parting moods and the question of whether art always comes from skill. Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassiou, Vangelis for short, has always worked with state-of-the-art synthesizer machines, sometimes pushing his sound cascades to the brink of electronic survival. Unlike many other AC devotees of his time, Vangelis was able to "create important melodies and develop them further without getting lost in the technology" (Stereo Review). Distant human voices, the lost calls of sirens, weave into the oriental dance. The shimmering noise moves between Gregorian and antiphonal chant, equally distant in time. The polyphonic playing on the Bösendorfer reminds us that in the stream of time, every form of musical expression is welcome. What sounds heavenly or hellish in the process is for each person to discover for themselves as they listen. One can say that one without the other is musically unthinkable.
