Gothic Metal

Gothic metal, gothic metal or goth metal, is a musical style that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom by combining death/doom and gothic rock. Because gothic metal encompasses a wide range of completely different metal styles, it is possible to encounter classifications other than those listed below. There is a lot of use of keyboards and female vocals. The male vocals are usually deep pitched and often encountered with growling. In contrast, the female voices are distinctly operatic. The lyrics are usually dark to depressing, dealing with death, despair, religion, vampirism, horror fiction, and even romantic literature.
