The Creation

British 1960s psychedelic rock band

The Creation was an English rock band formed in 1966. They are best known for their innovative sound that fused hard rock with a mod aesthetic, characterized by the use of a bowed guitar on their single "Making Time," which was later featured in the Wes Anderson film "Rushmore." The band's lineup included lead vocalist Bob Garner, guitarist Eddie Phillips, bassist Kim Gardner, and drummer Jack Jones. Although they did not achieve significant commercial success during their initial run, The Creation developed a cult following and has been cited as an influence by numerous punk and Britpop acts. Their music was marked by an aggressive, feedback-laden guitar sound and catchy melodies. Despite their short-lived original career, which ended in 1968, The Creation's work has been re-evaluated over time, leading to various reunions and the release of retrospective compilations like "Making Time: The Best of The Creation." Their influence can be heard in the work of later bands who drew inspiration from their blend of mod style and psychedelic rock energy.
