Product Information - The late Charlie Gillett and his friend and neighbour Gordon Nelki formed a record company, production company and label, Oval, in 1972, but no record was released until 1975. Originally intended to serve as a home for reissues of Charlie's favorite Louisiana rock 'n' roll and swamp pop, they released the album "Another Saturday Night" and expanded into reggae singles - another of Charlie's passions. Success eluded them, however, and they decided to leave the reissue business to labels like Ace as they began releasing contemporary artists, including artists who sent demos to both the Clapham office and to Charlie for his radio show. - This compilation is a broad cross-section of the music Oval was releasing - some great tracks that didn't make a ripple on the charts, plus a few tracks that were really successful, such as Lene Lovich's "Lucky Number" (which was licensed to Stiff Records) and the Jack'n'Chill house anthem "The Jack That House Built", which made it to #6 - Fully annotated and illustrated, with a history of the label and track-by-track descriptions.
