Proper's annual double CD presents a selection of tracks by artists nominated for the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 (now in its 18th year). Presented annually by Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis, this event is one of the most important dates in folk music. The biggest names in the folk scene celebrate its blossoming in the UK. The Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 will welcome a host of guest stars. Headlining will be legendary artist Billy Bragg, who will pay tribute to folk icon (and Bob Dylan mentor) Woody Guthrie, who will be inducted into the Radio 2 Folk Awards Hall of Fame. Singer-songwriter Al Stewart will receive the prestigious award for his lifetime contribution to folk music. Afro Celt Sound System is a group that fuses modern electronic dance music with traditional Irish and West African music. Further live performances will be announced at a later date. The categories are Folk Singer of the Year, Best Duo, Best Group, Best Album, Horizon Award, Musician of the Year, Best Original Song, Best Traditional Song and the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.
