Researched and curated by "Diggin In The Carts" writer and co-director Nick Dwyer and Hyperdub label head Kode9, the collection delves deep into the rare archives of Japanese video game music from the chip era. This release is enriched by artwork by renowned Japanese anime artist KOJI MORIMOTO, whose distinctive style is evident in films such as Memories and The Animatrix. The music on the compilation was created for world-famous game consoles such as the Famicom, Super Nintendo and PC Engine, to popular Japanese home computer platforms such as the MSX, MSXturboR and PC-8801. "Diggin In The Carts" presents these works not only as "video game music" but as incredible pieces of electronically produced Japanese music that can stand on their own. From Steve Reich's minimalist Steve Reich-inspired masterpiece "Mister Diviner" by Soshi Hosoi from The Mahjong Touhaiden to Toshiharu Yamanishi's dazzling high-tech chip soul "Shooting Stars" from the legendary Mega Drive shooter "Thun der Force IV", and not forgetting Konami Kukeiha Club with tracks like "Mouryou Senki Madara" and "Esper Dream II".
