A metal band's closeness to its fans can be measured, among other things, by how long it keeps its fans waiting for new songs. In this respect, Sodomy are considered to be an absolute role model, as they have always regularly provided their numerous followers with new "food". After the release of the still current album "Decision Day", the EP "Partisan" was added to it - in time for the big European tour in December 2018. Now the thrash metallers from Gelsenkirchen around frontman Tom Angelripper (vocals, bass) show their generosity again: before starting work on the upcoming LPm Sodom, they present their brand new mini-album "Out Of The Frontline Trench". Tom calls the record "a sign of life for the fans" and, along with his guitarists Frank Blackfire and Yorck Segatz and drummer Husky, it features three brand new songs and two classics (one re-recorded, the other live). "Out Of The Frontline Trench" thus covers a wide arc between (Sodom's) past, present and future. The centerpiece of the new mini-album is the song "Genesis 19", which according to Tom is the first official precursor to the planned, presumably eponymous LP. These are typical Sodom attributes that apply to "Genesis 19": solid thrash metal, hard as a rock and fast, earthy and ambitious, with Tom's characteristic lyrics about the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (mentioned in the Bible). "I've always been fascinated by the subject," Tom explains, "but regardless of the religious aspects, I approached the story from a historical perspective and wondered if it was more of a natural phenomenon, such as a meteor strike that turned the cities into rubble. However, in the lyrics of the song I reinterpreted the story of Lot, the inhabitant of Sodom, so that the song would also be faithful to the original biblical version." In addition to "Genesis 19", "Out Of The Frontline Trench" contains two other brand new tracks, the title track and "Down On Your Knees". Both tracks deal with the horrors of World War I. Tom. "Out Of The Frontline Trench" is accompanied by a newly recorded version of the Sodom classic "Agent Orange" (this seminal album celebrates its 30th anniversary this year), as well as a live version of "Bombenhagel" recorded in June 2018 at the Veltins Arena in the Shack, with Angelripper & co. including "Steigerlied" as a little trick at the end. Out Of The Frontline Trench" was recorded and co-produced by Klaus Spangenberg. Tom: "Klaus is also our FOH (live mixer) and made sure that the new songs sounded especially live and authentic. So: no trigger signals at all, no digital profiling amps, but as much analog gear as possible to capture the unexplainable magic that happens between guitar boxes/drums and microphones. Others advertise under the slogan "Back to the roots", we can do it!" There's no doubt that Sodom's new line-up oozes energy and invention. It's gratifying that they've let their fans participate and shortened the wait for their next album with "Out Of The Frontline Trench". Tracks 1, 2 and 3 are brand new songs, track 4 is a re-recorded classic and track 5 is a live version from 2018! Track 1 is also the title track of the new album "Genesis 19" which will be released in 2020!
