With "Please", the Pet Shop Boys introduced their instantly successful debut album in March 1986, which immediately reached number 3 in the UK and stayed in the UK Official Albums Chart for a total of 82 weeks. In the US, the album reached the Top 10 and went platinum. In Germany, it initially only reached the Top 40, but the singles "West End Girls" and "Suburbia" reached number two on the German singles chart. In total, "Please" has sold more than three million copies to date. The original version of the album contained 10 songs, including the first single "West End Girls", which reached number one in the UK and the US and won gold. In 1987, Please won a BRIT Award in the "Best Single" category and an Ivor Novello Award in the "Best International Hit" category. A little later, in 2005 to be precise, the British Academy of Composers and Authors' judges awarded the song the Ivor Novello Award as "Song Of The Decade". The songs "Love Comes Quickly", "Opportunity (Let's Make Lots Of Money)" and "Suburbia" reached the top twenty of the UK singles chart upon release. The catalogue reissue of the album includes the remastered original on vinyl and double CD, while Further Listening features remixes of tracks released as seven- and 12-inch singles around Please.
