The album features 10 new Metheny compositions recorded by his longtime drummer Antonio Sanchez, Malaysian-Australian bassist Linda May Han Oh, English pianist Gwilym Simcock and the Hollywood Studio Symphony under the direction of Joel McNeely. "From This Place" features guest appearances by Meshell Ndegeocello (vocals), Gregoire Maret (harmonica) and Luis Conte (drums). The album features Metheny's first new material since 2014's "Kin (←→)" and will see Metheny, Simcock, Oh and Sanchez embark on an extensive international tour in the new year. "From This Place is one of those records I've wanted to make my whole life. It's a kind of musical culmination for me and reflects the wide range of expressions that have captivated me over the years - on the big screen. The performance style offers opportunities for communication that can only be achieved with a group of musicians who have spent several hundred nights on stage together," Metheny says. For more than three decades, Pat Metheny has continually set himself apart from the jazz mainstream by blurring and expanding boundaries and musical styles. He has won 20 Grammy Awards in twelve different categories. He was the only bandleader to win a Grammy for seven consecutive recordings in an astounding streak. These include a number of influential trio recordings, award-winning solo albums, scores for successful Hollywood films, and collaborations or duo recordings with notable artists such as Ornette Coleman, Steve Reich, Charlie Haden, Brad Mehldau and many others.
