Prince and The Revolution were an American band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1983. The band was led by Prince, an iconic and influential musician known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense, and use of makeup. The Revolution was created as Prince's backing band for his fifth album, "1999," which was released in 1982. However, they became much more prominent with the release of "Purple Rain" in 1984, which served as the soundtrack to the film of the same name. "Purple Rain" is often hailed as one of the greatest albums in music history and solidified Prince's status as a superstar. It included hits such as "When Doves Cry," "Let's Go Crazy," and the title track "Purple Rain."
