Djent

Djent is a progressive metal musical style, or prog metal subgenre, that began to develop between 2006 and 2008. In its original sense, it refers to a digitally processed chord, guitar riff. It very often uses polyrhythms. It uses heavily distorted chord muting. The most prominent identifying features are the complex rhythm, playing technique and frequent use of computer sounds. 7- to 8-string guitars are used. The genre continues to evolve in many forms and has achieved a much wider variety of sounds and styles than it did at its inception, with many historic bands continuing to record new music and tour, while thousands of new bands emerge in the underground scene each year, from all over the world. Many other musical styles such as jazz, ambient, fusion, and folk are also intertwined in djent, using their techniques.
