The Undertones

The Undertones are a Northern Irish punk rock/power pop band that formed in Derry in 1974. The original lineup consisted of Feargal Sharkey (vocals), John O'Neill (guitar), Damian O'Neill (guitar, keyboards, and occasionally vocals), Michael Bradley (bass, vocals), and Billy Doherty (drums). They first gained prominence with their debut single "Teenage Kicks," which was championed by influential BBC DJ John Peel and remains one of their best-known songs. The band's self-titled debut album, "The Undertones," was released in 1979 and was followed by "Hypnotised" in 1980. Their music combined the energy and rawness of punk with infectious melodies and pop sensibilities, which helped them to stand out from their contemporaries.
