American electronic protopunk band

Suicide was an influential American musical duo, consisting of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev, that emerged from the early New York City punk scene. Formed in 1970, they were among the pioneers of electronic music in a rock context and are often cited as forerunners of the synth-punk and industrial genres. Their self-titled debut album "Suicide," released in 1977, was a groundbreaking work that combined Rev's minimalist electronic instrumentation with Vega's rockabilly-inspired vocals and confrontational performance style. The album's fusion of synthesizers, drum machines, and gritty urban storytelling was initially met with controversy but has since been recognized as a seminal influence on later genres like techno, industrial, and electronic body music (EBM).
