Stefano Landi

Stefano Landi

Italian Baroque Composer and Priest

Stefano Landi (1587–1639) was an Italian composer of the early Baroque era, not to be confused with a modern artist or band. He is primarily known for his secular music and his contributions to the development of the Roman oratorio and the opera. Landi was one of the earliest composers to write operas with a historical subject, as seen in his work "Sant'Alessio," which is considered one of the first operas to be based on historical events rather than mythology. His music often featured innovative use of strophic songs and recitatives, which were important in the evolution of dramatic music during that period. While Landi did compose a piece titled "La Morte d'Orfeo," it is important to note that this work dates back to 1619 and is an opera rather than an album in the modern sense. The titles "Prologue" and "Songs Of Orpheus" could refer to parts or selections from his operatic works, but without specific context, it's difficult to provide details on these titles in relation to Landi's career.
