Ricky Nelson, born Eric Hilliard Nelson on May 8, 1940, was an American singer and actor who emerged as one of the most popular teen idols of the 1950s and early 1960s. He first gained fame appearing alongside his family in the radio and television series "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet." His musical career took off when he recorded his debut single "I'm Walkin'" in 1957, which was a success. Nelson's smooth voice and good looks helped him to become a teenage idol, with hits like "Hello Mary Lou," "Travelin' Man," and "Poor Little Fool," which was the first number-one song on Billboard's newly created Hot 100 chart in 1958.
