Midlake is an American folk rock band hailing from Denton, Texas, formed in 1999. The band initially began as a jazz-influenced project while the members were attending the University of North Texas College of Music, but their sound evolved significantly over time. Midlake gained recognition with their second album, "The Trials of Van Occupanther," released in 2006. This album marked a shift towards a more 1970s soft rock influence and received critical acclaim for its lush instrumentation and nostalgic feel. The band's lineup has seen changes throughout its career, with lead vocalist and songwriter Tim Smith departing in 2012, after which guitarist Eric Pulido stepped up as the frontman. Midlake continued to produce music and perform, maintaining a dedicated fan base and contributing to the indie rock and folk scenes with their distinctive sound.
