German post-punk band

Malaria! was an influential post-punk band that emerged from the Berlin underground scene in the early 1980s. The group was formed by Gudrun Gut and Bettina Köster after their previous band, Mania D., disbanded. Malaria! was known for its experimental sound, which combined elements of punk, new wave, and electronic music. Their music often featured dark, atmospheric synthesizers and driving rhythms, with Köster's distinctive voice adding a haunting quality to their songs. The band gained recognition both in Germany and internationally, touring extensively and sharing stages with acts like The Birthday Party and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Although they disbanded in the mid-1980s, Malaria!'s influence can be heard in the work of later artists who drew from their pioneering blend of genres.
