The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, often referred to as the LA Phil, is a world-renowned American orchestra based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1919 by William Andrews Clark Jr., the LA Phil has grown to become one of the most prominent orchestras in the United States and internationally. The orchestra performs its winter season at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and its summer season at the Hollywood Bowl. Over the years, the LA Phil has been led by a series of distinguished conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Carlo Maria Giulini, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and currently Gustavo Dudamel, who became music director in 2009.
