Liz Phair is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who emerged in the early 1990s as a prominent figure in the indie rock scene. She gained critical acclaim with her debut studio album, "Exile in Guyville," released in 1993. The album, which was a song-by-song response to the Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main St.," received widespread praise for its raw lyrics and lo-fi production, and it is often cited as a landmark feminist work. Following the success of her debut, Phair released "Whip-Smart" in 1994, which included the hit single "Supernova" and further cemented her status as a significant voice in alternative rock.
