Eric Johnson is an esteemed American guitarist, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his meticulous musicianship and his pursuit of perfect tone. Born on August 17, 1954, in Austin, Texas, Johnson began playing guitar at a young age and was influenced by a wide array of musical styles, including rock, jazz, blues, and country. He gained national recognition with his 1986 album "Tones," which earned him a Grammy nomination for the track "Zap." However, it was his 1990 release "Ah Via Musicom" that catapulted him to stardom within the guitar community, largely due to the success of the instrumental hit "Cliffs of Dover," which won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
