Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October 17, 1972, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists in the history of hip hop. Emerging from the Detroit rap scene in the late 1990s, Eminem gained mainstream popularity with his major-label debut album "The Slim Shady LP" in 1999, which won him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His next two releases, "The Marshall Mathers LP" in 2000 and "The Eminem Show" in 2002, were worldwide successes and are often cited among the best albums of the genre; both won Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album and have been certified Diamond by the RIAA.
