Ekkehard Wlaschiha

Ekkehard Wlaschiha

German Operatic Baritone

Ekkehard Wlaschiha was a renowned German operatic baritone who had a significant career in opera houses around the world. Born on July 28, 1938, in Pirna, Germany, he became particularly famous for his interpretations of roles in the operas of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. Wlaschiha's powerful voice and dramatic intensity made him an ideal performer for the demanding roles in German opera, especially those of Wagner. He performed at prestigious venues such as the Bayreuth Festival, where Wagner's works are a central feature. Over the course of his career, he worked with many leading conductors and orchestras and left behind recordings that continue to be appreciated by opera enthusiasts. His contributions to performances of "Das Rheingold" and "Lohengrin," among other operas, have been noted for their depth and vocal strength. Wlaschiha passed away on February 29, 2020, leaving behind a legacy as one of the notable Wagnerian baritones of his time.
