Celia Cruz

Celia Cruz

Cuban Queen of Salsa Music

Celia Cruz was a Cuban-American singer and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century. Nicknamed the "Queen of Salsa," she was known for her powerful voice and vibrant, larger-than-life stage presence. Cruz began her career in her native Cuba before moving to the United States after the Cuban Revolution. Over her illustrious career, she recorded more than 70 albums and won numerous awards, including multiple Grammys and Latin Grammys. Her signature cry "¡Azúcar!" (Sugar!) became emblematic of her performances, symbolizing both her personality and the joyous essence of salsa music. Celia Cruz collaborated with many other artists and orchestras, such as Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco, and the Fania All-Stars, further solidifying her status as a leading figure in salsa music. She continued to perform until her death in 2003, leaving behind a legacy that has influenced countless artists and continues to win over fans worldwide.
