Candlemass is a seminal Swedish doom metal band formed in 1984 by bassist and main songwriter Leif Edling. The band is known for its significant influence on the development of the doom metal genre, particularly with their debut album "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" released in 1986. This album is often cited as a defining work of the genre, characterized by its slow tempos, heavy riffs, and operatic vocals, which were provided by Johan Längqvist during this recording. Candlemass underwent several lineup changes throughout their career, with vocalist Messiah Marcolin being another notable member who contributed to their classic sound during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
