Béla Bartók was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist, born on March 25, 1881, in Nagyszentmiklós, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Sânnicolau Mare, Romania). He is considered one of the most important composers of the 20th century and a pioneer in the field of ethnomusicology. Bartók's music was deeply influenced by his collection and analytical study of folk music. He traveled extensively across Eastern Europe to record and transcribe folk songs, which he incorporated into his own compositions, creating a unique synthesis of folk elements and classical music traditions.
