Alexander Siloti

Alexander Siloti

Russian Pianist and Composer

Alexander Ilyich Siloti (also known as Aleksandr Siloti, 1863–1945) was a Russian pianist, conductor, and composer. He was a student of Nikolai Rubinstein and later of Franz Liszt. Siloti was an influential figure in the music world at the turn of the 20th century, known for his arrangements and transcriptions of other composers' works, particularly those of Johann Sebastian Bach. His most famous transcription is probably the Prelude in B minor based on a Prelude in E minor by Bach. Although he did not produce albums in the modern sense, as he lived before the era of LPs and CDs, his transcriptions have been widely performed and recorded by other artists after his death. The albums "Bach Piano Transcriptions - 5," "Razor Blades, Little Pills, Big Pianos" seem to be unrelated to Alexander Siloti's body of work or may refer to modern recordings or interpretations of his transcriptions by other artists.
