Music fans often think they would have been one of the few people who could have listened to the Velvet Underground's debut album "Bananas" or Love's "Forever Changes" in their original versions if they had the chance. In retrospect, it's no hesitation to say that these albums are "classics" but received limited attention in their day. Young Fathers' debut was similarly successful. The re-release of their debut mixtape "Tape One" on the Big Dada label, as well as its successor "Tape Two", now gives us the opportunity to relive these two albums that were far out of the mainstream and ahead of their time in 2011/12. Celebrated sound engineer Mandy Parnell (The Knife, Björk, Brian Eno among others) remastered these early recordings of the band in an attempt to capture the gritty atmosphere of the basement studio in Leith, Scotland, near Edinburgh, where the music was once recorded. "Tape One" was recorded in one week and released as a free download in November 2011. "Tape Two" was uploaded almost immediately afterwards, in January 2012. Soon after, the Los Angeles label Anticon released both recordings on the US market. The reason for the re-release of the recordings is the overwhelming success of the film "Trainspotting: T2", on whose soundtrack the band is represented by six tracks. Young Fathers will be headlining the M.I.A. curated Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall on June 9, 2017 and will also play a special "TAPEs-only" show at London's Rough Trade East on June 5.
