"Step Forward Youth" tells the story of the influential punk and new wave from the perspective of politically and socially critical reggae, the only genre that was actively supported and celebrated by the scene's protagonists, whether in joint concert events (under the banner of Rock Against Racism and the Anti Nazi League) or at The Roxy, where Don Letts as a DJ played current Jamaican singles before and after the punk bands' concerts. Among the 36 tracks on the double CD are various favourites by Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols) aka John Lydon (PiL) - Augustus Pablo, Culture and Dr. Alimantado (who's also in the cover photo), The Clash (Junior Murvin's "Police & Thieves", Prince Far I's "Heavy Manners"), Ian Curtis (Joy Division) and his favourites "Turn The Heater On" by Keith Hudson and The Slits (Junior Byles' "Fade Away" and "A Noisy Place", I Roy's version of the Paragons classic "Got To Get Away" aka "Man Next Door"). From the US, Patti Smith got excited about DJ and toaster Tappa Zukie, who is represented here with "Jah Is I Guiding Star", and Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers hit the Top 5 of the UK charts with "Egyptian Reggae", an instrumental version of Johnny Clarke's "None Shall Escape The Judgement" (represented here by The Aggrovators' dub version of "None Shall Escape Dub"). "Step Forward Youth" comes with a sixteen-page booklet with extensive liner notes and many quotes from contemporary memorabilia such as Jerry Dammers (The Special AKA), Dave Ruffy (The Ruts), Dennis Bovell (Matumbi, LKJ), Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound), and twelve selected tracks are released on LP vinyl with the Greensleeves Records seal of quality.
