Talmy made a total of about 300 recordings. For him, music production was "highly personal work". If the same song is recorded by six different producers for the same performers, six different results are produced. He sees music production as a symbiosis between performer and producer. Talmy used 12 microphones just for the drums - four were common at the time. They were placed close to the amplifiers ("close-miking"), which produced a denser sound. Guitar riffs were the focus of many recordings. According to Talmy, the role of the music producer in the 1990s remained much the same as in the 1960s; it was and is all about "wrapping the performer's performance in the best possible framework". He has helped The Who, The Kinks and Easybeats, among others, to do this. Among them are Liz Shelley, Margo & The Marvettes, Colette & The Bandits and many more.
