If that seems like a bold statement, it's worth considering that virtually all of the music television that followed owes its pioneering spirit to RSG! Besides introducing the top artists of the time and allowing future stars to gain early visibility, television's most important feature was its club atmosphere, which removed the barrier between artist and performer and gave RSG! an atmosphere of liveliness and immediacy that other pop shows lacked. This collection of 10 vinyl 7" singles presents a selection of 20 songs performed on RSG! from 1963-66. The variety of artists illustrates the range of styles the show encompassed and why it remains popular: Wilson Pickett, The Walker Brothers, Diana Ross, The Kinks, Dusty Springfield, Marvin Gaye, Manfred Mann, Donovan and more.
