It's been 50 years since the band's formation and 20 years since its last concert so far. On July 9, 1995, the Grateful Dead performed at Chicago's historic Soldier Field for the last time before frontman Jerry Garcia died of a heart attack a month later. Before the end of December that year, the band announced their breakup. On July 3, 4 and 5, 2015, the Grateful Dead reunited at the same venue where they played their last concert in 1995. Approximately 200,000 people attended the band's 50th anniversary celebration and remembrance of Jerry Garcia. Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart were on stage together again and played two sets of many of their greatest hits three nights in a row. They were backed by Trey Anastasio on guitar, Jeff Chimenti on keyboards and Bruce Hornsby on piano.
