The Cure's album Disintegration, released in 1989, is often referred to as the band's masterpiece. The album was recorded over two years and was a very personal project for frontman Robert Smith, who was going through a divorce at the time. The result is an emotionally charged collection of songs that range from dark and brooding to anthemic and uplifting. Highlights include the singles "Lovesong," "Pictures of You" and "Fascination Street," as well as the epic nine-minute title track. Disintegration is an essential album for any fan of The Cure and remains one of the most influential albums of the 80s.
