Queen's twelfth album, A Kind Of Magic, was released in 1986 during the renaissance of progressive rock music. Both Genesis and their former lead singer Peter Gabriel aspired to the heights of Messrs May, Mercury, Deacon and Taylor, who returned to the top of the UK charts with the double-platinum album.A Kind Of Magic has a conceptual background, as it became the unofficial soundtrack to the film Highlander by Australian director Russell Mulcahy. The film was released a few months before the album, which contains several songs to accompany the plot and one, "Princes Of The Universe", which is the theme song.The album only reached #42 in the US Billboard chart, its best international position was #3 in the UK. Review , "A Kind Of Magic, almost the soundtrack to the film "Highlander", showed that Queen were one of the few heavy rock bands of the 1970s to have a good influence on the soft 1980s."
