Morphine was an American alt-rock band formed by Mark Sandman, Dana Colley and Jerome Deupree in 1989 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The group combined blues and jazz elements with traditional rock arrangements. The result was an eclectic and unusual sound. Critics praised the band highly. In the United States, the band became well-known in the indie rock community, was played on college radio and then other radio stations, eventually making it onto MTV's 120 Minutes. Internationally, the band became known primarily in Belgium, Portugal, France and Australia. Cure for Pain is Morphine's second album, originally released in 1993. The songs "Sheila" and "In Spite of Me" were the soundtrack to the independent film Spanking the Monkey. The music video for "Thursday" appeared in an episode of Beavis and Butthead, and the song "Buena" was featured in the first season of The Sopranos.
