When Ludwig van Beethoven settled permanently in Vienna in 1792, it was his second attempt to make a fortune in the city. In 1787, he actually wanted to study with Mozart in Vienna, but the sudden death of Beethoven's mother prevented him from staying longer. In 1792, when Mozart had already died, he came to study with Haydn. His String Trios Op. 9 were written in 1797-98 and testify to Beethoven's genius, which was already evident in this early period. His ingenuity gives rise to melodic fireworks and bold harmonies, and his ability to combine three instruments into a cohesive ensemble gives us a sense of the grandeur of his quartets even in these rarely heard works. Review "These musicians make up three-quarters of Kodály's quartet, and their playing as a trio is as superb as that of the quartet. I love this recording!" (American Record Guide)
