In Extremo (Latin for "at the end" or "in the extreme") is a German folk metal band originally from Berlin. The style combines metal with traditional medieval songs, combining the sound of common rock/metal instruments with historical instruments (e.g. bagpipes, harp, ninera). Various versions of well-known medieval ballads form the main part of their repertoire, but over time the band has also been writing their own material. This is written in German, while other songs are in many different languages including Spanish, English, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, French, Hebrew, Latin. In Extremo They have been nicknamed "Rammstein with bagpipes" and it fits - their live shows are renowned for their elaborate musical show combining metal music with medieval instrument playing, large stage sets and lots of fire pyro effects. They also perform regularly in the Czech Republic with great success.
