His breakthrough came in 1956, when he became a controversial identifying figure of the rock and roll movement. He caused a sensation in his time with his extremely physical stage performances. By 1978, Elvis Presley had been nominated fourteen times for a Grammy Award, which he won three times for his gospel performances. Presley also appeared in 31 feature films between 1956 and 1969.
