Do we still have to introduce Destruction in a big way? No, but it deserves it! Starting out as Knight Of Demon in 1982, but quickly adopting the name by which the world has now known them for over thirty years, the young, hungry trio, who would later become one of the Big Four of Teutonic thrash, released their debut EP "Sentence Of Death" in 1984. On their first official album, Destruction not only set a new speed record with "Devil's Soldiers", but also introduced two of the most important songs in the band's history: "Mad Butcher" became a true Destruction classic with its wicked riffs and ultimate splatter lyrics, while "Total Disaster" is still a live favourite of band boss Schmier: "Playing that thing live is a hell of a lot of fun, even after 34 years!". The EP was recorded in September 1984 in the then still divided Berlin studio Caet. The mixing and mastering was done by Horst Müller and the production by Wolfgang Eichholz, guitarist of S.A.D. O. Schmier also revealed the special sonic secret of "Sentence of Death". Destruction's debut EP was a raw and aggressive first strike from a band that set out to be the fastest and heaviest of them all, and fans and press alike still agree that "Sentence of Death" set the bar even then. The huge success of the EP eventually allowed Destruction to release their first LP on Steamhammer - but that's another story. Back then, no one believed that extreme thrash metal could ever become relevant in any way - but "Sentence of Death" is and remains proof that even an outsider can make it if they believe in themselves and their music.
