The tour began in May 1983 in support of David Bowie's Let's Dance album. It opened on 18 May 1983 at the Vorst Forest Nationaal in Brussels and ended on 8 December 1983 at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Bowie's band visited 15 countries, played 96 concerts and sold more than 2.6 million tickets. The tour was met with overwhelmingly positive press coverage. At the time, it was his longest, most extensive and most successful concert tour, although it has since been surpassed in length, attendance and gross receipts by other Bowie tours. The band featured well-known musicians such as Earl Slick, Carlos Alomar and Tony Thomson. The recording was made at the Montreal Forum and was broadcast as part of the well-known King Biscuit Flower Hour radio series at the time.
