Thorens

Thorens boasts a very rich history of development and experience that has made the Thorens brand a legend. It was registered as a family business in St. Croix, Switzerland, as early as 1883, when it was dedicated to the manufacture of music boxes. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it began to produce its own phonographs and by 1906 it was mainly focused on the production of phonographs for shellac records. Due to its continuous growth, it soon transformed into a public limited company and contributed many technological innovations that were adopted by other phonograph manufacturers, including the development of, for example, the electric direct drive. The company moved its production capacity to Germany in the 1960s, where production continues to this day under strict quality standards. The company's ability to innovate has also been demonstrated with new models. The TD 309, whose three-point base seating design and its effect on reproduction quality is considered one of the most revolutionary, won the 2010-2011 EISA Award.
