T. Rex

Glam Rock Pioneers of the 1970s

T. Rex was a British rock band formed in 1967 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan. Initially called Tyrannosaurus Rex, the band began as a psychedelic folk group before transitioning to a pioneering glam rock act. T. Rex achieved significant commercial success in the early 1970s, with hits such as "Get It On" (known as "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" in the US), "Jeepster," and "Children of the Revolution." Their 1971 album "Electric Warrior" is widely regarded as a landmark in the glam rock movement, reaching No. 1 on the UK charts and featuring their iconic single "Get It On." The follow-up album, "The Slider," released in 1972, also received critical acclaim and contained successful singles like "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru." The band's visibility and popularity waned towards the mid-70s, but they continued to influence many musicians across various genres. Tragically, Marc Bolan's career was cut short when he died in a car accident in 1977 at the age of 29, cementing his legacy as one of glam rock's most charismatic and innovative figures.
