60s Pop Rock Band Known for Happy Together Hit

The Turtles were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. They are best known for their harmonic pop sound and their biggest hit single, "Happy Together," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967. The band's original lineup included vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, guitarist Al Nichol, bassist Chuck Portz, drummer Don Murray, and keyboardist Jim Tucker. The Turtles' music incorporated elements of folk-rock, which was particularly evident in their early cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe," which became their first hit. Over the course of their career, they released several albums and a string of successful singles before disbanding in 1970. Post-Turtles, Kaylan and Volman would go on to perform under the name Flo & Eddie and found success as session musicians and radio personalities. The Turtles' influence continued to be felt in pop culture through the use of their songs in movies, television shows, and commercials.
