The Monks were an avant-garde garage rock band formed in the mid-1960s by American GIs stationed in Germany. Known for their distinctive style, which included electric banjo, feedback-laden guitar, and a rhythmic, chanting vocal style, The Monks stood out with their unconventional sound and image. They were also notable for their unique appearance, often wearing black monk's habits with nooses for neckties. Their music was ahead of its time, influencing the punk and new wave movements that would emerge a decade later. The Monks released their groundbreaking album "Black Monk Time" in 1966, which has since become a cult classic. Although they disbanded in the late 1960s, The Monks experienced a resurgence of interest in later years and have been recognized as pioneers in the music industry for their innovative approach to rock music.
