Smoke City

British electronic/trip-hop band

Smoke City was a British band that blended acid jazz, trip-hop, and Brazilian styles, most notably samba. The group consisted of Nina Miranda on vocals, Mark Brown on production and programming, and Chris Franck on guitar and other instruments. They are best known for their single "Underwater Love," which gained significant attention after being featured in a Levi's jeans television advertisement. The song was from their debut album "Flying Away," released in 1997. Smoke City's music was characterized by its eclectic mix of electronic beats, acoustic instrumentation, and Miranda's multilingual singing. Despite their initial success, the band only released one more album, "Heroes of Nature," in 2001 before disbanding. Their innovative sound left a mark on the late '90s electronic and world music scenes.
