Shovels & Rope is an American folk duo composed of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst. Formed in Charleston, South Carolina, the duo blends traditional folk, rock and roll, and country rock to create a distinctive sound that has garnered them a dedicated following. They are known for their energetic live shows and multi-instrumental performances, often switching instruments on stage. Their career took off with the release of their album "O' Be Joyful" in 2012, which received critical acclaim and showcased their ability to craft compelling stories through song. Following the success of "O' Be Joyful," they released "Swimmin' Time" in 2014, further solidifying their place in the Americana music scene. The duo also embarked on a collaborative project with "Busted Jukebox Volume 1," which was released in 2015 and featured covers of songs by other artists with help from their musical friends.
