Richard Hickox

Richard Hickox was a renowned English conductor, known for his extensive work in both orchestral and choral music. Born on March 5, 1948, he became one of the most prolific recording artists in classical music. Hickox was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of British music, and he worked with a number of leading orchestras and ensembles, including founding the City of London Sinfonia in 1971. Throughout his career, he was associated with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Opera House, among others. His discography is extensive, with a strong emphasis on choral works, including major pieces by composers such as Elgar and Vaughan Williams. Hickox received numerous awards for his recordings, including multiple Gramophone Awards. His contribution to British music was further recognized when he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2002.
