Raymond Scott

Innovative American Composer and Electronic Music Pioneer

Raymond Scott was an American composer, bandleader, pianist, engineer, recording studio maverick, and inventor whose career spanned several decades from the 1930s onward. He is perhaps best known for his work in the swing era with his Raymond Scott Quintette. Despite the name, the group was actually a sextet, which played Scott's original compositions that were notable for their quirky melodies and intricate arrangements. His music during this period was not initially composed for children; however, it gained enduring fame when it was adapted for use in numerous Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies animated films, making his tunes familiar to millions around the world.
