German Krautrock Pioneers

Neu! was a German krautrock band formed in Düsseldorf in 1971 by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother after their split from Kraftwerk. The duo's music incorporated minimalist melodies and arrangements, extended rhythmic grooves, and the innovative use of guitar feedback and distortion, which would become influential in the development of various music genres including post-punk, ambient, and electronic music. Neu!'s self-titled debut album, "Neu!" released in 1972, is considered a landmark in the krautrock genre, featuring the motorik beat that became a signature of their sound—a steady 4/4 beat that creates a sensation of movement and fluidity.
