Morbid Angel is an American death metal band that was formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1983. They are widely regarded as one of the pioneering bands in the death metal genre. The band was founded by guitarist Trey Azagthoth, who has been the primary composer and the only constant member throughout its history. Morbid Angel gained significant attention within the underground music community with their debut album "Altars of Madness" in 1989, which is often cited as a landmark release in death metal. They followed this with "Blessed Are the Sick" in 1991, further cementing their reputation for complex compositions and dark lyrical themes.
