Miguel Llobet

Miguel Llobet

Catalan Classical Guitar Virtuoso

Miguel Llobet (1878–1938) was a renowned Catalan classical guitarist and composer, celebrated for his contributions to the development of the guitar repertoire in the early 20th century. He was a pupil of Francisco Tárrega, who is often considered the father of modern classical guitar, and Llobet's playing continued to shape the instrument's tradition. His arrangements of Catalan folk songs are particularly well-known and have become staples in the classical guitar canon. Llobet also composed original works and was instrumental in popularizing the guitar through his international tours. His influence extended to his students, among whom was María Luisa Anido, who became a prominent guitarist in her own right. While Llobet did not produce albums during his lifetime due to the era he lived in, his legacy has been preserved through recordings made by others, including those who have compiled his works into collections such as "Guitar Music," "Segovia And His Contemporaries Vol.6," and "Elogio De La Guitarra." These compilations are tributes to his enduring impact on the world of classical guitar music.
